Projects

Rheumatic Fever

León, Nicaragua is one of four hot spots in the world for rheumatic fever, which results if strep throat is left untreated. SLHON provides assistance in funding for clinics to conduct medical testing, and mission team visits annually to meet with doctors and patients to access both needs, and the effectiveness of resources.

Education

training-480SLHON provides scholarship funds to US-trained medical technicians to travel to Nicaragua to conduct medical testing and treatment. Provides financial support for native Nicaraguan Pediatric Surgeons. Also supplies educational materials to kids, parents, and teachers.

Open Heart Surgery

If left untreated, rheumatic fever leads to heart valve damage, which requires open heart surgery. SLHON provides funding to assist in these surgeries.

Water Wells

SLHON has funded 10 completed wells thus far in León, Nicaragua area. Each well provides clean water to approximately 250 individuals / 41 families. This improves overall health conditions, and eliminates long trips to obtain water, allowing more children to attend school.

Rotary City Clinic

SLHON provided funds to construct two new clinical rooms in the Rotary City Clinic to improve the overall effectiveness of the clinic. Hurricane Gert in 1993 destroyed almost an entire community. Rotary International rebuilt 100 houses and a medical clinic. SLHN has also given funds for medical supplies.

Hospital Assistance

SLHON provided funds to refurbish clinical rooms and to purchase new medical equipment for the leading hospital in Leon, HEDORA. Helped renovate 3 rooms, including adding air conditioning and medical supplies.

Orphanage Support

As part of its ongoing support to the children of Nicaragua, SLHON has supplied bedding, mattresses, building improvements, clothing, food, and educational materials.
